The Auburndale station is located along the MBTA Framingham/Worcester Line and next to the highway 1-90. The project consists of two new canopies (1,200 SF total) and a curbside waiting area (600 SF) as part of accessibility amenities improvement to the MBTA Auburndale commuter rail station. The community requested that the design pays homage to the H.H. Richardson station that once stood there and was replaced by the current station. The canopies open up towards the tracks to give better visibility of the trains and slope towards the middle diverting water away from the passengers. Towards the town center, the canopy makes a welcoming gesture, borrowing elements from Richardson’s arched roof the ‘eyelid’.
