YWCA of Central Massachusetts
Renovation

Fennick McCredie collaborated with the YWCA of Central Massachusetts to create renovations that align with their vision to be an all-inclusive women’s advocacy and resource center with a pro-active membership serving the diverse needs of women through leadership, service, and support. The YWCA branch located in Worcester offers an array of programs, including a childcare center, transitional housing, community and women’s initiatives, as well as health and wellness amenities like a gymnasium, pool, and fitness rooms. We take great pride in leading the renovation efforts for this historic 74,000 square-foot, five-story building, which has been a vital resource for the Worcester-area community for more than six decades.

The upgraded facilities design will facilitate the branch’s early education, childcare, domestic violence services, along with wellness and health education. Other spaces that have undergone improvements include economic empowerment spaces for women, such as classrooms and counseling rooms, and administration offices.

Site work has improved the functionality of the highly programmed and constrained urban site. Features include a redesign of daycare playgrounds, better vehicular access and drop-off, landscape and “green” infrastructure. Given the YW’s proximity to the heart of downtown Worcester, the site development now enhances the organization’s visibility in the district and showcase its mission and offerings to the community.
