Callahan Tunnel Vent Building 13 Repairs
MassDOT

At 110 feet high, Vent Building 13 of the Callahan Tunnel is among the most visible structures in East Boston. The building sits within the fabric of a dense neighborhood of diverse cultures, mixed uses and a myriad of building materials. The proximity and orientation of the Vent Building to the entrance of the Callahan Tunnel also sets it among the most prominent landmarks for visitors arriving from Logan Airport.

Built in 1961, the exterior brick walls have not fared well through the decades of freeze/thaw cycles and the corrosive salt-air. The existing façade is failing and requires total replacement. FMA is providing design and oversight of the replacement of the façade, ensuring that the vent building remains a durable and proud landmark for decades to come.
