Paris Street Community Center
Renovations

Originally constructed in 1910, the Paris Street Community Center holds the distinction of being the oldest public gymnasium in the country. Throughout its existence, this center in the heart of East Boston has fulfilled various roles, initially serving as a public gym and bathhouse. With approximately 27,000 square feet of space, it has provided a range of services to the community. However, since its last significant renovation in 1987, the community’s needs have evolved.

During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Marty Walsh praised the Paris Street Community Center as the “gold standard” for Boston’s community centers. Fennick McCredie undertook an extensive renovation project, designed to meet universal access and life safety requirements. The upgrades included window replacements and the installation of new building systems. Importantly, the renovation successfully expanded the center’s programming to cater to the evolving needs and desires of the community, while also preserving the historical integrity of the facility.
