Aviation Tech Campus

An existing wooded site provides the opportunity for a college campus environment coexisting within an airport context.  The experience of arrival via landside – a forested campus footpath of intimate scale and materials – is contrasted with the large-scale airport hardscape beyond.  This contrast is slowly revealed  as one approaches, enters, and then occupies the public center of the building, connecting the domains of pavement and landscape, aircraft and individual. From this central core the student is fully oriented, with views of ongoing educational programs in the hangars and on the apron, access to student classroom, lounge, and administrative spaces, and connection back to the landscaped outdoor study garden.

The architectural experience is intended to provide appropriate, human-scale learning environments while communicating the curriculum, goals, and overall mission of the college.
