East Boston Senior Center
New Construction and Renovations

Fennick McCredie lead the renovation of the Barnes Avenue Library in the Orient Heights neighborhood of East Boston into a community senior center. The project has been praised as being a community-driven effort for which the local residents have played an important role to help shape what the new center will look like. As such, this project entailed multiple public meetings in which residents were encouraged to weigh in on the services they would like to see incorporated.

The site design celebrates the unique access to green space by providing universally accessible landscaped gardens that will accommodate additional programming for all patrons in an otherwise dense urban context. The existing building footprint is compact with limited square footage therefore the interior spaces are designed to be flexible and support maximum program offerings.
